After 13 years of marriage to a preacher, I realized that there was more to life than being what men expected me to be. Fleeing in the night and taking my children to safety in Canada from the USA, I learned that I was a strong, resilient woman. In the words of Robert Thoreau, I wanted ‘to live deep and suck out all the marrow of life.’ After 5 years of education, I had reinvented myself to feed my children and make a living teaching elementary education. Shortly after, I received my master’s in education. I have taught on both coasts of our wonderful country and now I am ready to live my retired life. What does retirement look like? I have no idea. I will keep you posted!
